NDIS Funding Changes 2025
From 19 May 2025, a new way of funding delivered via the NDIS will start rolling out — breaking it into smaller, more manageable chunks to help participants stay on top of their budget and get the most out of their plan. By doing this it helps with focusing on certain period at a time.
What’s New with NDIS Funding?
Previously, participants received their entire plan funding upfront, usually for 12 months. While this gave flexibility, it often made budgeting difficult. Many participants found themselves spending too much too soon or not using enough of their supports.
Under the new model, funding will be released in shorter timeframes—typically every three months. This means:
- The total funding amount stays the same
- it’s delivered gradually to support better budgeting
- Participants can still access the supports they need—just in a more balanced way
Why the NDIS Is Making This Change
This change is all about improving support and financial planning for participants. Based on feedback from across the disability sector, the NDIS aims to:
- Reduce stress around managing funds
- Help participants make their funding last
- Encourage more consistent access to supports
- Lower the risk of under or over-spending
Who Does This Affect?
These changes will only apply when a participant:
- Receives a new NDIS plan, or
- Has a plan review or reassessment
The new funding period structure will be rolled out gradually and tailored based on each person’s situation.
