What is a Home Care Package?
Home care packages is one of the ways the Australian government helps Australians to get affordable care services to help them in their house. Home Care Packages (HCP) are designed for those with more complex care needs and it goes beyond hat the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) can provide.
What can services can I get under Home Care Package?

Understanding the different levels of Home Care Packages
Home Care Packages are divided into four levels, each providing different amounts of funding to support varying care needs. The levels range from basic support to high-level care.
Level 1 – Basic Care Needs – Support for individuals who require occasional help, such as cleaning, shopping, or meal preparation.
Level 2 – Low-Level Care Needs – For those who need more regular assistance, including personal care, home maintenance, or transport to appointments.
Level 3 – Intermediate Care Needs – Provides a higher level of support, such as help with daily living tasks, nursing care, or managing health conditions.
Level 4 – High-Level Care Needs -Designed for individuals with complex needs, offering comprehensive services such as intensive personal care, nursing, and mobility support.

Eligibility for a Home Care package
To be eligible for a Home Care Package, you must be
- an older person 65 or over (or 50 and over for First Nations people) who needs coordinated services to help them stay at home, or
- a younger person with a disability, dementia or other care needs not met through other specialist services.
Your eligibility is assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS), who will work with you to understand your care needs and personal circumstances.
