Help at Hand Support Services recently attended the Brisbane North Community Disability Expo, hosted by Disability Events Community.
The event held on 03 June 2026 at Kedron Wavell marked another exciting chapter in our ongoing journey to connect with communities across Brisbane, meet participants face to face and share what Help at Hand Support Services can offer to people living with disability.
The event brought together participants, families, carers, support workers, support coordinators and disability providers from across the region for a day focused on connection, information sharing and community engagement. As always, it was fantastic to step away from emails and phone calls and spend time speaking directly with the people who make our work so meaningful.
A Space where people feel seen
From the moment the doors opened, something special was in the air.
Families walked in looking for answers. Participants arrived hoping to find support that truly fits their lives. Support workers and coordinators came ready to strengthen the networks that make the NDIS work at its best.
And in every conversation, across every table, there was that unmistakable feeling — people being genuinely heard.
These are the moments that no email or phone call can replicate. Face-to-face connection builds trust in a way that’s difficult to put into words but impossible to miss when you’re standing in the middle of it.
Coffee and Connections
A heartfelt thank you to Plan Partners for offering free barista-made coffee to the first 200 attendees. It sounds like a small gesture, but it set the tone for the whole day — warm, relaxed and genuinely human.
Some of the most meaningful conversations we had happened in those quiet moments between sips. A mum sharing how hard the last year had been. A young participant talking about what independence means to him. A carer finally feeling like they weren’t alone.
That’s the magic of community expos. The agenda matters, but the unscripted moments matter more.
Real Conversations, Real Impact
Throughout the day, our Help at Hand Support Services team had the privilege of speaking with participants navigating new chapters in their NDIS journey, parents searching for the right supports for their children, and industry professionals working tirelessly to create better outcomes for the people they serve.
Each conversation was a reminder of the resilience, courage and hope that lives within the disability community every single day.
We didn’t just hand out brochures. We listened. We shared. We connected. And we left with a deeper understanding of what the people we support truly need — not just in terms of services, but in terms of being genuinely seen and valued.
Positive Energy Throughout the Day
The atmosphere throughout the event was welcoming, inclusive and full of positive energy. There were meaningful discussions happening across the venue, plenty of networking opportunities and a genuine sense of community among everyone in attendance.
Our team always appreciates the opportunity to hear directly from participants and families about their experiences, goals and support needs. These conversations help us better understand what matters most to the people we support.
Thank you to Disability Events Community
A big thank you to Disability Events Community for organising another successful event and creating a space where participants, families and providers can come together. Community expos continue to play an important role in connecting people with services and strengthening the disability sector.
How Does This Connect to Ongoing NDIS Support?
Our Help at Hand Support Services team attends events like the Brisbane North Community Disability Expo to strengthen our connections with local communities and better understand the needs of participants across Australia. Events like this support ongoing NDIS delivery by encouraging open conversations, informed choice, and the long-term, tailored support that helps people live their best lives.
We look forward to continuing the conversations that started at the expo and supporting participants on their journey towards greater independence, confidence and community participation.
