On Thursday 15th October, the Craigieburn Sporting Club opened its doors for the Craigieburn Community Disability Expo, organised by the Disability Events Community (DEC) and supported by state sponsor NDSP. The Help at Hand Support Services team was there, and we’re still smiling.
Three hours. One room. Plenty of conversations that matter.
Melbourne’s North Showed Up
Craigieburn is one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing communities, and the room reflected it. Participants, families, carers, support workers and local providers all came together to share stories, ask questions and find out what support is out there.
That’s the beauty of a community expo. No appointments, no forms, no waiting rooms. Just real people talking to real people.
Why Showing Up Matters
Help at Hand is a national NDIS provider. We travel to communities because we believe support should feel local, wherever you live. Craigieburn was another chance to turn up, listen and start building relationships that last long after the day is over.
Why showing up Matters
Help at Hand is a national NDIS provider. We travel to communities because we believe support should feel local, wherever you live. Weribee was another chance to do just that: turn up, listen and start building relationships that last long after the day is over.
Meeting People Where They Are
Not everyone finds support by searching online or picking up the phone. Sometimes it starts with a friendly face, a chat and a chance to ask, “What does that actually look like day to day?”
Expos make that easy. Families can wander at their own pace, compare options and ask the questions they’ve been sitting on, in a relaxed and welcoming space.
Local Providers, One Room
With free on-site parking and a bus stop right out the front, the venue made it simple for people to come along. Small details like that make a big difference to who can attend.
What We Love About Werribee
Werribee has a strong community spirit, and it was easy to feel at home at the Italian Sports Club. There was a real sense of people looking out for each other, and it’s the kind of place where support works best: local, personal and built on trust.
 Questions Worth Asking a Provider
If you’re thinking about changing providers or starting fresh, ask:
- How do you match support workers to participants?
- How flexible is your support if my routine changes?
- Can you work with my existing plan and my goals?
- How will we stay in touch?
The right provider will welcome every question.
 What’s Next?
Every expo leaves us with new connections and fresh ideas, and Werribee was no different. We’ll be following up with the support coordinators and providers we met, and we’re already looking forward to seeing you at the next community event.
The Ripple Effect
A single conversation at an expo can turn into a participant finding a support worker who’s the right fit. It can turn into a family feeling more confident about their next steps, or a coordinator having one more trusted provider to call. Small moments, big ripples.
Thank you to everyone who came alone and to the organisers for bringing the community together. We can’t wait for the next one.
How does This Connect to Ongoing NDIS Support?
At Help at Hand, we build care plans around each participant’s needs and provide support workers who help with day-to-day life, from personal care to getting out and about in the community. We also offer plan management. The relationships we build at events like this help us keep our support genuinely person-centred.
