On Wednesday 23rd September, the Italian Sports Club of Werribee filled up with people, ideas and good energy for the Werribee community Disability Expo. The Help at Hand Support Services team was there, and we’re still buzzing.

Three hours. One room. Dozens of conversations that matter.

Melbourne’s West Showed Up

Werribee is a growing community, and it showed. Participants, families, carers and local providers all came together under one roof, swapping their stories, asking questions and finding out what support is out there.

That’s the magic of a community expo. No appointments, no forms, no waiting rooms. Just real people talking to real people.

The Connections Were the Highlight

We came ready to listen, and we left with a notebook full of new connections. We spoke with plenty of support coordinators, the people who workday in, day out to help participants make sense of their plans and find the right supports.

Those conversations are gold. When support coordinators know who we are and how we work, participants get connected to the right support faster. We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by to say hello, share what their participants are looking for and find out how Help at Hand can help.

Why showing up Matters

Help at Hand is a national NDIS provider. We travel to communities because we believe support should feel local, wherever you live. Weribee was another chance to do just that: turn up, listen and start building relationships that last long after the day is over.

Meeting People Where They Are

Nor everyone finds support by searching online or making a phone call. Sometimes it starts with a friendly face, a chat and a chance to ask, “What does that actually look like day to day?”

Expos like this make that easy. Participants and families can wander at their own pace, compare options and ask questions they’ve been sitting on, all in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Local Providers, One Room

Having so many services in the same place is a game changer. Instead of chasing information across a dozen websites, people could talk to providers face to face and get a real feel for who they’d be comfortable working with.

For us, it was just as valuable. Hearing what the Werribee community is looking for helps us keep our support relevant, practical and genuinely useful.

What We Love About Werribee

Werribee has a strong community spirit, and it was easy to feel at home at the Italian Sports Club. There was a real sense of people looking out for each other, and it’s the kind of place where support works best: local, personal and built on trust.

 Questions Worth Asking a Provider

If you’re thinking about changing providers or starting fresh, expos are a great time to ask:

  • How do you match support workers to participants?
  • How flexible is your support if my routine changes?
  • Can you work with my existing plan and my goals?
  • How will we stay in touch?

The right provider will welcome every question.

 What’s Next?

Every expo leaves us with new connections and fresh ideas, and Werribee was no different. We’ll be following up with the support coordinators and providers we met, and we’re already looking forward to seeing you at the next community event.

The Ripple Effect

A single conversation at an expo can turn into a participant finding a support worker who’s the right fit. It can turn into a family feeling more confident about their next steps, or a coordinator having one more trusted provider to call. Small moments, big ripples.

Thank you to everyone who came alone and to the organisers for bringing the community together. We can’t wait for the next one.

How does This Connect to Ongoing NDIS Support?

At Help at Hand, we build care plans around each participant’s needs and provide support workers who help with day-to-day life, from personal care to getting out and about in the community. We also offer plan management. The relationships we build at events like this help us keep our support genuinely person-centred.
